MUSKEGON – State Representative Doug Bennett (D-Muskegon) today praised a $2.7 million grant to Michigan Works! in Muskegon County for employment training, saying the grant will provide a much-needed boost to the region's economy.
"These programs update the skills of Michigan workers, which in turn increases the quality of the Michigan workforce," Bennett said. "This grant will give a much-need boost the overall economy of our region."
The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth awarded $105 million in Workforce Investment Act (WIA) grants to 25 Michigan Works! agencies that will enhance employment and training opportunities for Michigan workers. The funds are made available through the federal Workforce Investment Act.
Bennett added that the grants will also help to reduce Welfare dependency and provide for more productivity in Michigan's workforce.
"This grant is an investment in Muskegon County and in Michigan workers," Bennett said. "By making sure our workers have the necessary skills to meet the demands of today's labor force, we also make Michigan a better place."
